Claude answering what the mining engineering handbooks say about rolling resistance on haul roads, with short quotes cited to the SME Mining Engineering Handbook and the Caterpillar Performance Handbook
In ClaudeShort quotes, each with the book and page.

How answers come back

The passage, then the page it is on.

  • A quote, not a guess. Each result is a short passage from the book, word for word. Your AI quotes it and builds its answer on it.
  • The citation, every time. Book, edition, chapter or section, and the printed page, so you can open your own copy and check.
  • Tables stay tables. Design tables come back transcribed row by row, like the powder factors and diesel airflows below.
  • One book or all of them. Ask it to search only the SME Mining Engineering Handbook, or across all 22.
  • Nothing found, it says so. If the references do not cover a question, the search comes back empty and your AI should tell you.

It quotes short passages and cites them. It never hands over whole chapters or books.

ChatGPT

Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and settings. Menu names change between releases; look for these.

  1. Open Settings, then Apps and connectors. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
  2. Press Create. Name: Big Dog Mining. URL: https://mcp.bigdogmining.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth.
  3. ChatGPT opens the same Big Dog Mining sign-up as above: email, 6-digit code, Approve.

Cursor

For engineers who live in an editor.

  1. Open Cursor Settings, then the MCP section, and add a new MCP server. Or edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json by hand.
  2. Add this server:
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "big-dog-mining": {
          "url": "https://mcp.bigdogmining.com/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Cursor asks you to sign in the first time. Same steps: email, 6-digit code, Approve.

Any other app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in works the same way: paste the URL, then sign in with your email.
